I have always had a love for baking. I love trying new recipes, reading them as merely “suggestions”, and then creating my own. It’s something I’ve done since I was young. I remember helping my mom bake, taking the ingredients, and creating my own (sometimes interesting) creations.
In 2014, my son was diagnosed with a peanut allergy. A year later, he was diagnosed with an egg allergy. Becoming an allergy mom added another layer and challenge to cooking for my family. In the beginning it was unfamiliar, overwhelming, and a huge learning curve: How do you cook without eggs?! Will we ever eat peanut butter cookies (my FAV) again?! How will we keep our son safe?! As I navigated our new world, I began to discover ways to make my family’s favourites, and create new ones!
Food allergies also pushed me further into cake decorating. I knew my son wouldn’t be able to have any bakery, Dairy Queen, or other specialty cakes. I didn’t want him to miss out! With my desire to give my son the birthday cakes of his dreams, I discovered a natural ability to create amazing cakes. I branched out to creating cakes for family and close friends. This past spring, I started creating for the general public. And here I am!
I’m not just an allergy mom! I’m an elementary school teacher living in Manitoba, Canada. I am married to a farmer, and I am a mom to a 7 year old boy, and 4 year old girl.
